Dr. Ballantyne grew up in Littleton, CO. He received a bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics, with a minor in Spanish, from Brigham Young University, Provo in 2006. He then received his Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN in 2010. He has also served a two-year mission in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico from 2000-2002, during which time he learned the Spanish language and grew to love Mexican food and culture. Dr. Ballantyne also went on a week long eye care mission trip to the Dominican Republic in 2009.
Dr. Ballantyne enjoys helping anyone see better. His favorite part of patient care is listening to a patient's visual problem and carefully crafting a solution through prescribing glasses, contact lenses, and/or vision training. He is well versed in ocular disease, surgical co-management, dry eye therapy, and pediatric eye care.
He married Michelle Mooney in 2004, and they now have four wonderful and energetic children. The Ballantynes have decided to call La Junta their home. In his free time, Dr. Ballantyne enjoys hiking, camping, snowboarding, waterskiing, hunting, basketball, but most of all family time.
Dr. Charlie Philpy grew up in nearby Eads, CO graduating from Eads High School in 2009. He earned a degree in Cellular Biology from Northeastern State University in 2012 and his Doctorate of Optometry from the Northeastern State University Oklahoma College of Optometry in Tahlequah, OK in 2017. He graduated with honors and is a member of the International Optometric Society, Beta Sigma Kappa. He was honored in 2016 as a Student Fellow by the American Academy of Optometry in 2016. Dr. Philpy is proud to return to southeastern Colorado to provide state of the art care to the wonderful people of this rural area. In his free time, Dr. Philpy enjoys outdoor activities, traveling, basketball and volunteerism
Dr. Sutton grew up in Hugoton, Kansas. She graduated from the University of Kansas in 2019 with a bachelor’s degree in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology with a minor in business. She then went on to study optometry in Big Rapids, Michigan where she earned her Doctorate of Optometry in 2024.
Dr. Sutton has served on mission trips to Dominica and Honduras. She has a passion for helping all people with their vision and health needs. She has always wanted to practice family eye care in a rural community close to home and family.
She is very excited to be moving to Lamar with her new husband, Yates Sutton. Yates also grew up in Hugoton, Kansas and graduated from Washburn University. In their free time, Yates and Taylor love to fish, golf, hike, garden, and enjoy family time together.
